Dining Out @ The Lion’s Share

imageWe ventured out on Saturday to a new restaurant with some friends from North County. They made the trek down; why does it seem so far away? This place is super cute, and has some of the best french fries you will ever eat. Wait? Did I say french fries? What about the new eating plan? C’mon silly, we can’t be good every day, can we? Eating regimens that are too stringent are bound to trip you up. So, we cheat occasionally.

One of the highlights at TLS is their craft cocktails. The world has gotten so crafty, hasn’t it? Just check out these drinks! And of course you’ll need one after you notice the price! I had the Leninade and it was divine. The weird thing about craft cocktails, to me, is their incredibly unique taste. They take you to another land and another time. There’s something about the unique mixture of tastes; it gives them a vintage flair. Pardon the blurry list, I tried to crisp it up to no avail.

All of the artwork is people with animal heads, very deer- and owl -ish, and even elephant-y, but with a carnivorous slant for sure. Not a haven for vegetarians, but the menu has plenty of non-meaty options. San Diego is really adding some great, fun places to eat. Also by these same folks is another place called Underbelly. It’s a Momofuku-inspired establishment (made famous  most recently by David Chang), and just awesome.

Whole Living Goodness

In January, like a lot of folks, I looked around for a little kickstart eating plan. James was up for it, too, so that made it way easier. Nothing like sitting down to a meal of salad while your other half chows down on heavier fare. I wanted something that wasn’t too restrictive and that could actually transition to a regular way to eat. One time we did the Master Cleanse – OMG – I ended up in the kitchen at 4 a.m., near death, eating crackers and drinking orange juice until the life ebbed back into me after 6 days of the “cleanse.” So, I found this in Whole Living magazine. Unlike some mono-food plans like the Soup Diet, or that god-awful Master Cleanse, this has the variety needed to go the distance, so you don’t finish three weeks of it and grab a vat of fettuccine alfredo and a loaf of Italian bread and fall over the cliff in a carb coma. Above is a picture of the beginnings of some roasted veggies. They’re great over salads!

The Acai Bowl at Lotus Café (the one made with soy milk) is super yummy, too, and has replaced the fried egg and toast breakfast we were eating.

I’m actually inspired to make new things that are healthy and tasty – sometimes these are two things that don’t go together.

Chattery Brain


Over the course of a month or several weeks, so many thoughts run through my head of what I want to do, it's almost funny. There's certainly no lack of ideas! This quote totally jumped out at me for this very reason. Sometimes I think spending my days writing about technology requires such focus (except of course when my ADD kicks in) that I feel a little bit trapped inside a topic-specific box. Once the clock strikes 5:30, it's like letting a caged bird out to fly! 

What is my mind saying these days? Come on, Robin, let's paint, travel, design, draw, sew, blog, Etsy, exercise, yoga, meditate, cook, garden, entertain more, crochet, embroider, connect more with family and friends, write more letters, organize, throw away, rearrange, decorate, sell the house, renovate the house, buy a house, be a minimalist, gather more, volunteer, read, join a club, get a 3rd kitty cat, ride my bike, eat what's in the pantry, go totally vegan, refinish furniture, make furniture...and the list goes on.

But, then I see this quote below and it reminds me that mental blathering can lead nowhere. We really have to pick a few things, or even one important thing at a time, and set our minds to that. It's easy to while away the day dreaming about what if, and maybe if I do this, or gee, it would be so lovely to... But then the time ticks on and that thing, that thought, that inspiration gathers dust or is forgotten or misplaced, and it may be too hard to retrieve.

Oh, it's one of those days where I'm heavy with the weight of my dreams, but inspired that I am free and able to have them and capable of going after them. So many are not so fortunate. (My cue to stop whining.)
