All's right with the world

Gwynnie had her dental procedure yesterday and was at the vet for 10 hours. It was a nerve-wracking experience, both the lead up of the three weeks wait for the appointment and then having to keep her fasted from 3am (yes, she wakes us to eat something at 3am) until we dropped her off at 7:30am. The result: she ended up getting six extractions, which is no small amount, though they apparently do have thirty teeth. Regardless, she came through like a strong cat, eating the food I sent with her while at the vet's, and then wanting more when she got home. She was alert on the drive home looking out the top of her carrier (which I open) at the sunlit mountainside along the freeway. Clearly loopy, but also seeming to feel fine. Litter box use has resumed and she's walking more steadily. I'm so relieved and so grateful it all went well.

Here she is just an hour or so after getting home, looking a bit glassy-eyed out the window as she listened to the neighborhood owl hooting outside.

Solid

A couple of solid structures. Taking in all the brick and heft and strength and letting it bolster me in this sad time.

My friend, Sherri, a.k.a. www.foziewisp.blogspot.com, took her step on 2/6/26. She knows all the secrets now. May death truly be just a step into another dimension. I hope you hear me sweet girl, as I continue our dialogue, and I hope Tallulah Mae's sweet face and your Mom's were perhaps your first encounters on the other side. Rest in all peace and love.

Moss

After our many days of rain, which are now over for a while, I love seeing the green moss growing in the cracks of the sidewalk.

Filled with thoughts of my friend, wishing her all possible healing and so much time to continue her beautiful life.

That Woman

Just starting “That Woman,” by Anne Seba. Taking a break from Proust. The book is all about the life of Wallis Simpson. She has such amazingly classic style… Quite a while ago, I jumped on the very crowded bandwagon of people who are fascinated with her. Madonna made a movie about her life with the would-be King. It’s called W.E. It’s loaded with fashion, lush interiors, music—the whole 9 yards. Pure fantasy, of course, but one that sure had some great parties! (Trailer for the movie.)

W.E. Movie Poster

And if you’re really interested, this is a documentary about the movie.

Safety and Warmth

So when I take over as world ruler, all beings large, small, two legs and four (and more!) - or none - will live in comfort and peace. I think this picture sums this thought up quite nicely. This is an album cover of an artist I've just discovered: Umphrey McGee. The album is called Safety in Numbers. Pandora brings me presents every day.

Samantha in the Sunlight

Little Samantha was just a wee kitty, about 4 pounds. She lived around the corner, and was around 18 years old I was told. I spent some time petting her one day; she crawled onto my lap. She was so sweet, with a scratchy little meow, and her body was really just a skeleton covered in longish black fur. I asked the owners about her and they told me she lived outside, all the time. Cold days, rainy days, everyday, outside. It kind of broke my heart. So I asked the next door neighbor about her, and thankfully learned that she fed her every day. I just got back from Florida, and the neighbor lady called me to tell me little Samantha went to kitty heaven. I had a good cry, and now I wanted to post this little tribute to wish her little soul a swift flight to the great beyond where it's warm, and she sleeps inside every night by a fire in the most beautiful cat bed, snuggled among flannel and cotton after a nice plate of sardines. For anyone that may read this and think that cats should live outside all the time, I'd encourage you to reconsider. Once domesticated, they should be inside at least when it's cold. Rest in peace, dear Samantha. You were loved, thought sadly not enough even by me. You will be missed, always.
